This specimen would be a better fit for O. nicholii (syn. O. polyacantha var. nichollii). As described by Bruce Parfitt in his 1991 PhD thesis, nichollii has a distinctive arrangement of two kinds of spines which are apparent in this specimen (whereas hystricina , and others, do not.
